Liposuction is one of the most effective body contouring cosmetic surgery procedures available today. Over the years, the procedure has become more advanced and less invasive, resulting in minimal risk and reduced discomfort and downtime. Several techniques can be used to perform liposuction, but the overall procedure steps will largely remain unchanged in each case.

Dr. Bryson Richards is a board certified plastic surgeon providing liposuction and other surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures. During the initial consultation, Dr. Richards will apprise the patient of the various steps involved in the surgery, and put them at ease. Patients in Las Vegas, NV and surrounding locations have an opportunity to receive liposuction from Dr. Richards.

Anesthesia

Liposuction plastic surgery procedure usually involves only local anesthesia, but general anesthesia may be used in some cases where multiple areas are involved or a substantial amount of fat reduction is necessary. Mild sedation may be used along with local anesthesia, depending on the patient’s anxiety levels.

Local anesthetic such as lidocaine is usually applied in the tumescent liposuction technique, which makes the procedure less risky and reduces anesthesia effects. However, patients who are allergic to lidocaine may not be able to undergo tumescent liposuction.

Placement of Incisions

Small incisions will be made in inconspicuous locations within the targeted area once the patient has been placed under anesthesia. The size of incisions generally ranges between a quarter and a third of an inch. As long as the incisions are small and placed discreetly, the patient will not have to worry much about the subsequent scarring.

Experienced cosmetic surgeon Dr. Richards receives patients from Las Vegas, NV and nearby areas for liposuction and several other procedures for the breast, body and face.

Removing Excess Fat Tissue

The surgeon will introduce an ultra thin cannula through the incisions to minimize or remove stubborn fat tissue. Once the vacuum tube reaches the deeper layers of fat, the surgeon will gently manipulate it to dislodge the fat cells. As the fat cells begin to disintegrate, the surgeon will suction them out through a pump or syringe attached to the other end of the cannula.

Advanced techniques such as laser, RF or ultrasound energy may be used at this stage of fat reduction to make liposuction less invasive and more precise. The patient will anyway have to be administered replacement fluids through IV during and after liposuction in order to compensate for the loss of fluid and blood.

Wound Closure

The incisions will be closed with traditional or absorbable sutures once the fat reduction procedure is completed. Drain tubes will usually be placed by the surgeon below the skin in the incision areas. This will help to collect excess fluid and reduce infection risk in the first few days after surgery.

Drain tubes as well as sutures will usually be removed in about a week or 10 days. If the incisions are very minor, the surgeon may allow them to remain open so that bruising and swelling is minimal. If liposuction is performed together with other surgeries, the procedure steps may be slightly adjusted.

According to the ASPS figures, liposuction is currently the second most popular procedure performed by a cosmetic surgeon in the US. Before the surgeon accepts a patient for liposuction, they will determine their fitness to undergo the surgery. The surgeon will evaluate various aspects to assess the candidacy and then schedule a date for the surgery.

At the time of pre-op consultation, the surgeon will try to know the reasons why the patient wants to have liposuction and which specific concerns about their body may be bothering them. Dr. Bryson Richards is a board certified plastic surgeon providing liposuction to patients in Las Vegas, NV and surrounding locations.

Suitable Candidates

An ideal candidate for liposuction would be someone who has a fairly good health condition, and their body weight is within 25 pounds of their ideal weight. The person would be unhappy about the appearance of stubborn fat pockets in certain areas of the body, which have become resistant to exercise and diet. A suitable candidate will be over the age of 18, and will have a positive mindset, clear goals and reasonable expectations from liposuction.

Who is Not a Candidate?

The cosmetic surgeon may advise certain people to avoid liposuction. These may include:

  • A woman who is currently pregnant or breastfeeding, or planning to have pregnancy
  • A person with underlying health concerns which could interfere with the surgery or the post-operative recovery
  • Smokers who are unwilling or unable to give up the habit for a specified period of time as advised by the surgeon
  • People who are unable to change the schedule of certain prescription or non-prescription drugs as advised by the surgeon.
  • People who are allergic to lidocaine, a local anesthetic which may be applied as part of tumescent liposuction.

Teen Candidacy

In rare cases, liposuction may be performed on candidates who are still in their teens. These candidates will typically have one or more lingering fat bulges remaining after a major weight loss. The teen’s physical and emotional health, maturity and self-esteem concerns will be assessed before they are selected as candidates for liposuction.

Adult Candidacy

In a procedure such as liposuction, there is no prescribed upper age limit. The surgeon will evaluate whether the patient is physically fit to safely under the surgery. If the patient is uncertain about their health, they may first consult with their doctor and then visit the cosmetic surgeon’s office for a more detailed candidacy evaluation.

Patients with a fair amount of skin elasticity in the affected areas will be ideal candidates because their skin will adapt smoothly to the new, sculpted contours. Older patients will typically have greater skin laxity compared to the younger ones. Dedicated and sagacious plastic surgeon Dr. Richards receives patients from Las Vegas, NV and nearby areas.

Keeping Realistic Expectations

Liposuction is only meant to reduce localized concentrations of fat in certain areas of the body. Only about 10 pounds of fat or less will be usually removed from the affected areas. Ideal candidates should know that liposuction is not a weight loss surgery, and only designed to improve body contours.

Your Breast Lift Consultation | Las Vegas Plastic Surgery | LaughlinConsultation is a key component of the breast lift cosmetic surgery process. It will provide an opportunity to the patient to learn about the procedure and receive instructions and guidance from the surgeon about the preparation for surgery. The surgeon will closely engage with the patient and establish a relationship of trust and open communication with her.

The physical breast exam and other inputs collected during the consultation will help the surgeon to create a customized breast surgery plan that will match with the patient’s unique needs. Dr. Bryson Richards is a board certified plastic surgeon providing breast lift and other procedures for the breast, body, and face to patients in Las Vegas, NV and surrounding locations.

Evaluating Patient’s Health

To begin with, the surgeon will assess the patient’s general health condition to determine her candidacy for breast lift plastic surgery. The surgeon will examine the breast anatomy, the extent of sagginess in the breasts, type and quality of skin, and the size and position of areolas. Specialized mammograms or other tests may be ordered in specific cases.

A detailed review of the patient’s health records will be conducted. The surgeon will ask questions related to any current health concerns. Body weight and measurements will be checked to determine a proportionate breast figure.

Assessing Patient’s Goals

The surgeon will encourage the patient to share her intrinsic aesthetic needs and desires with regard to her breast appearance and shape. An important part of the assessment will be whether she requires only a breast lift or a lift along with breast implants.

It is a remarkable idea for patients to carry images from publications or websites to show to the surgeon about their desired breast figure. The surgeon will incorporate this feedback while creating a customized breast lift surgery plan to meet the specific needs of the patient.

Developing Expectations

At the time of consultation, the surgeon may present before the patient several breast lift before and after photos belonging to previous patients. A review of these photos will reveal to the patient what to expect and what not to expect from a breast lift surgery. Having reasonable expectations will enable the patient to gain more satisfaction from the final results.

The patient should feel free to ask questions and clarify all her doubts and concerns during the consultation process. This will help her to make a well-informed decision. The surgeon may also present testimonials of past patients to let the patient know about the experiences of actual patients with breast lift surgery.

Preparatory Instructions

Prior to the surgery, the patient will be required to follow a few do’s and don’ts in order to ensure a successful and safe breast surgery procedure. The patient will be required to temporarily stop the use of certain prescription and non-prescription medications, herbal supplements and vitamins.

If the patient is a smoker, she will have to stop smoking completely for a certain period as advised by the surgeon. Dedicated cosmetic surgeon Dr. Richards receives patients from Las Vegas, NV and nearby areas for breast lift surgery.

Breast Lift Procedure Steps | Las Vegas Plastic Surgery | LaughlinBreast lift is a major cosmetic surgery procedure designed to restore the youthful and firm looking appearance of breasts that tend to sag due to aging and other factors. The procedure to perform breast lift may slightly vary in each case, but for the most part, the steps involved in the procedure will remain the same.

Dr. Bryson Richards is a board certified plastic surgeon providing breast lift and other surgical and non-surgical aesthetic procedures. At the time of initial consultation, Dr. Richards will explain all about the procedure to the patient. He provides breast lift to patients in Las Vegas, NV and surrounding locations.

Anesthesia

Breast lift is usually performed with the patient under general anesthesia, but local anesthesia with IV sedation may be used in some cases. In either case, the patient will remain in deep sleep throughout the surgery. An anesthesiologist or a nurse anesthetist may be present during the plastic surgery procedure to monitor the patient’s response to anesthesia.

Placing the Incisions

Following anesthesia, the next step will involve the placement of incisions. Incision placement will be done as per the pre-determined surgical plan. The surgeon will ensure that the incisions are located in inconspicuous areas to keep the subsequent scarring discreet. Natural breast folds will usually conceal the scars in the best possible way after a breast lift surgery.

Lifting the Breasts

Through the incisions, the surgeon will excise the loose breast skin and reshape the underlying breast tissue to create firmer, younger looking breasts. If the areolas are enlarged, the surgeon will trim the area and remove excess tissue from the circumference. The areola and the nipple can be moved to a raised position to look natural with the lifted breasts.

Once the reshaping and lift of the breasts is over, the skin will be re-draped, bringing some of the tissue which was above the areolas down to the lower portion of the breasts. Judicious cosmetic surgeon Dr. Richards receives patients from Las Vegas, NV and nearby areas for breast lift.

Wound Closure

The surgeon will close the incisions with removable or dissolvable sutures once the surgery is completed. Multiple sutures will be placed, which will extend into the deeper breast tissue, to retain the new shape of the breasts and keep the skin in place. In case of traditional sutures, the patient will have to visit the surgeon’s office to have them removed in about seven to 10 days.

Bandages and Surgical Bra

The surgeon will wrap the incision site in bandages once the surgery is over. The bandages may be removed in a day or two, and replaced with a surgical bra or compression garment. This will provide extra support for healing and help to maintain the new breast shape.

Surgical bra will prevent the incisions from opening up, and the patient will be required to wear it full-time for several weeks. If drain tubes are placed at the time of incision closure, these will be removed in about 10 days along with the incisions.

Your Breast Reduction Consultation | Las Vegas | Mesquite Plastic SurgeryBreast reduction cosmetic surgery procedure can help to create more proportionately sized breasts for a woman who is bothered by heavy, pendulous breasts. At the time of pre-operative consultation, the breast surgeon will educate the patient about all aspects of breast reduction and help her to make an informed choice.

Patients should feel free to ask questions and clarify all their concerns and doubts prior to choosing breast reduction surgery. The consultation opportunity should be fully utilized to gain insights and feel more confident about the procedure. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Bryson Richards provides breast reduction to patients in Las Vegas, NV, and surrounding communities.

Patient’s Goals

During the initial consultation, the surgeon will try to understand from the patient why she wants to undergo breast reduction plastic surgery. While many women seek this procedure for cosmetic reasons, some may also want this surgery to get rid of persistent pain or discomfort in the back, neck or shoulders and other limitations of movement and clothing caused by oversized breasts.

Based on the patient’s feedback, the surgeon will be able to create an appropriate surgical plan to meet her personal aesthetic and health goals through breast reduction.

Health Evaluation

Breast reduction is a major procedure, and may involve general anesthesia in some cases. The patient should be fit enough to sustain the surgery as well as anesthesia. She should not be suffering from any such medical conditions that may cause excessive bleeding, delayed healing or pose other risks during or after the surgery.

Patient’s drug allergies, if any, will also be taken into account. The surgeon will assess her health records, breast anatomy, quality and elasticity of skin, and then determine her candidacy for breast reduction.

Current Medications

Before visiting the surgeon’s office for a breast reduction consultation appointment, the patient should ideally prepare a list of all prescription and non-prescription medications that she may be currently taking. Any herbal supplements and vitamins should also be included in the list.

The surgeon may ask her to stop using certain medications and supplements for about two weeks prior to breast reduction surgery. The schedule of some prescription meds may have to be altered in consultation with the physician.

Lifestyle Changes

If the patient is a smoker, the cosmetic surgeon will ask her to stop smoking for a certain period of time before the surgery. Nicotine in tobacco can limit the oxygen supply in the blood and pose risks for the patient during the surgery. Smokers are also at a higher risk of slow recovery after breast reconstruction surgery.

The surgeon may also recommend the patient to choose a balanced diet and increase the intake of lean proteins. A physical fitness regimen should ideally be followed prior to the surgery.

Images and Testimonials

During the pre-op consultation, the surgeon may present breast reconstruction before and after images as well as testimonials of past patients. Dr. Richards receives patients from Las Vegas, NV, and nearby areas for breast reduction surgery and various other procedures.

Preparing for Breast Reduction Surgery | Las Vegas | Bullhead CityBreast reduction is a major cosmetic surgery procedure involving significant pre-operative preparation. Well-prepared patients will typically achieve safer and more effective outcomes.

During the initial consultation, the breast surgeon will discuss the preparatory steps with the patient and address her doubts and concerns, if any. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Bryson Richards provides breast reduction to patients in Las Vegas, NV, and surrounding communities.

Advance Preparatory Steps

The following steps should ideally be followed well before the scheduled date of breast reduction plastic surgery procedure.

  • Contact the general physician, specialists and hospital for past health records to be submitted to the breast surgeon’s office for their review.
  • Prepare a list of all medications, including both prescription and non-prescription drugs, blood thinners such as aspirin, herbal supplements and vitamins to present before the surgeon.
  • Get any specialized mammograms, lab tests or x-rays done as recommended by the surgeon.
  • Adjust the schedule of the prescription medications in consultation with the primary physician, as required.
  • Stop smoking for a certain period of time prior to the breast reduction surgery, as per the surgeon’s advice.
  • Complete any pressing tasks at the workplace or home before the date of surgery in order to ensure a fairly stress-free post-operative recovery phase.
  • Arrange for a friend or family member to drive the patient back home after the breast reduction procedure.
  • Arrange for aftercare for a few days or have someone stay at home with the patient to assist with household tasks.

Patients can improve their chances of a safer, more comfortable, and faster recovery when they follow these recovery instructions as closely as possible.

A Day Prior to the Surgery

Just a day prior to the breast reduction surgery, the patient should follow these simple guidelines, which will be provided by the cosmetic surgeon:

  • Take adequate rest and have a full night’s sleep before the surgery day.
  • Do not eat or drink anything for about eight hours before the surgery.
  • Avoid alcohol for at least 48 hours before the scheduled time of surgery.
  • Do not wear jewelry, other expensive accessories and body piercings on the day of the surgery.
  • Wear loose fitting and comfortable clothes on way to the surgical center. The top should button in the front for easy handling after the surgery.
  • Diabetics should make sure to have their vital parameters checked on the morning of the surgery.

Some degree of pre-operative stress and anxiety is expected a day prior to the surgery, and is not a cause for worry. The surgeon may prescribe a mild calming medication to be taken on the night before the surgery.

Pain meds, bandages, loose garments, extra pillows, and other essential items should be arranged at home in advance so that the patient will not face inconvenience when she returns home from the surgery center. Breast Reduction Surgery Risks and Safety | Las Vegas Plastic Surgery

Breast reduction cosmetic surgery is generally considered a safe and not a rigorous procedure, but patients should know about the potential risks associated with the surgery. Typical risks include the chance of infection, poor anesthesia reaction, and irregular nipple height. However, the potential benefits of breast reduction usually outweigh the risks associated with the surgery.

The breast surgeon will discuss about the potential risks and complications during the initial breast reduction consultation. The first goal of the surgeon will be to help the patient make an informed decision. Experienced plastic surgeon Dr. Bryson Richards provides breast reduction to patients in Las Vegas, NV and nearby areas.

Asymmetrical Breasts

One of the risks after breast reduction plastic surgery is that breasts may become significantly asymmetrical. However, if the procedure is performed by an experienced surgeon, this risk will be very rare. But if this condition occurs, it can be corrected by a subsequent revision surgery.

At the same time, patients should know that breasts are not entirely symmetrical. A minor difference in size and shape is natural, and should not prompt additional corrective surgery.

Irregular Nipple Height

Breast reduction involves changing the size and shape of the breasts and shifting of some skin. Therefore, there is a risk that the nipples will not be placed at the same height after reduction. In some cases, the nipple and areola will be detached and grafted back on the breast.

In other cases, the nipple will remain attached, but the breast skin will be altered to fit the smaller sized breasts. In both approaches, the risk of nipple height becoming uneven exists.

Changes in Sensation

Loss of sensation in the breast is a risk following reduction mammaplasty, particularly if the areola has been removed and then grafted. Although areola grafting is aesthetically pleasing, the detachment from the breast tissue could lead to loss of sensation in the nipples.

To some extent, even non-grafting breast reduction procedures have the risk of altered sensation in the nipples or breasts as a whole. Sometimes this change of sensation may be temporary, but in rare cases, the sensation loss can be permanent.

Breastfeeding Issues

Following breast reduction, it is possible that the woman may not be able to breastfeed. The amount of risk will depend on the type of surgical technique applied for the procedure. In case of traditional anchor pattern breast reduction, the risk affecting the ability to breastfeed increases. Several milk ducts are removed in this type of reduction, making it more difficult to breastfeed in the future.

In case of vertical incision breast reduction, the risk of not being able to breastfeed is reduced. In this case, at least a part of the nipple will remain connected to the milk ducts. Breastfeeding risks in breast reduction are usually minimal if the patient has more fatty tissue and less glandular tissue, and breast reduction is performed using liposuction.

Infection is another common risk in breast reduction, just like any other surgery. Patients in Las Vegas, NV and nearby areas have an opportunity to receive breast reduction performed by Dr. Richards.

Breast Reduction Procedure Steps | Las Vegas Plastic Surgery Breast reduction cosmetic surgery procedure can help to create more proportionately sized breasts, and at the same time, alleviate pain and discomfort in the neck, back and shoulders. Women who are considering breast reduction should learn about the steps involved in the procedure, and then make a careful decision about going ahead with the surgery.

During the initial consultation, the breast surgeon will explain the procedure steps to educate the patient and help her make an informed choice. Patients should feel free to ask questions and relieve themselves of any pre-surgery anxiety. Dr. Bryson Richards is an experienced plastic surgeon providing breast reduction to patients in Las Vegas, NV and surrounding communities.

Consultation and Preparation

Prior to the breast reduction plastic surgery procedure, the surgeon will conduct a detailed consultation. The patient will have the opportunity to discuss her personal aesthetic goals from the procedure, and have her medical history evaluate to determine candidacy. The surgeon will also provide the guidelines for pre-operative preparation to help ensure that the surgery goes safe and smooth.

Administering Anesthesia

The first step in the breast reduction surgery will be to place the patient under general anesthesia. In a few cases, local anesthesia with IV sedation may be used. General anesthesia will put the patient to deep sleep during the procedure. A qualified anesthesiologist or a nurse anesthetist may be present throughout the surgery to monitor the patient’s response. The patient may experience mild side effects of anesthesia for a few hours after the surgery.

Incision Placement

Breast reduction will involve one of three incision techniques: an anchor incision, a vertical incision or a scarless incision. The anchor incision is a traditional incision made around the areola, vertically down the breast, and then horizontally along the breast crease.

The vertical incision is placed around the areolar border and vertically down the breast for reduced scarring. A scarless incision involves tiny incisions made at the breast crease or at the armpit, and the excess fat is removed through liposuction.

Surgical Reduction

Through the incisions, the surgeon will remove excess fat, tissue and skin from the lower portion of the breast. If the patient has largely fat tissue in the breasts, she may just require liposuction to reduce the breast size. This will result in minimal scarring, less breast tissue trauma, and reduced chances of complications.

Nipple Repositioning

In case of breast reduction, the surgeon will reposition the nipples higher up on the breast. The procedure may or may involve removal of the nipple from the breast and then grafting it in the desired place. Women with very large breasts usually require the nipple to be removed for repositioning. The surgeon will let the patient know in advance whether or not nipple sensation may be altered or completely lost as a result.

Closing the Incision

The surgeon will close the incisions using removable or dissolvable sutures. The technique used for sealing the incisions will be discussed prior to the surgery. Dr. Richards is a dedicated and standout cosmetic surgeon who receives patients from Las Vegas, NV and nearby areas for .
