Breast lift is a major cosmetic surgery procedure designed to restore the youthful and firm looking appearance of breasts that tend to sag due to aging and other factors. The procedure to perform breast lift may slightly vary in each case, but for the most part, the steps involved in the procedure will remain the same.

Anesthesia
Breast lift is usually performed with the patient under general anesthesia, but local anesthesia with IV sedation may be used in some cases. In either case, the patient will remain in deep sleep throughout the surgery. An anesthesiologist or a nurse anesthetist may be present during the plastic surgery procedure to monitor the patient’s response to anesthesia.
Placing the Incisions
Following anesthesia, the next step will involve the placement of incisions. Incision placement will be done as per the pre-determined surgical plan. The surgeon will ensure that the incisions are located in inconspicuous areas to keep the subsequent scarring discreet. Natural breast folds will usually conceal the scars in the best possible way after a breast lift surgery.
Lifting the Breasts
Through the incisions, the surgeon will excise the loose breast skin and reshape the underlying breast tissue to create firmer, younger looking breasts. If the areolas are enlarged, the surgeon will trim the area and remove excess tissue from the circumference. The areola and the nipple can be moved to a raised position to look natural with the lifted breasts.

Wound Closure
The surgeon will close the incisions with removable or dissolvable sutures once the surgery is completed. Multiple sutures will be placed, which will extend into the deeper breast tissue, to retain the new shape of the breasts and keep the skin in place. In case of traditional sutures, the patient will have to visit the surgeon’s office to have them removed in about seven to 10 days.
Bandages and Surgical Bra
The surgeon will wrap the incision site in bandages once the surgery is over. The bandages may be removed in a day or two, and replaced with a surgical bra or compression garment. This will provide extra support for healing and help to maintain the new breast shape.
Surgical bra will prevent the incisions from opening up, and the patient will be required to wear it full-time for several weeks. If drain tubes are placed at the time of incision closure, these will be removed in about 10 days along with the incisions.
