Augmentation mammaplasty, commonly known as breast augmentation, is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to enhance the breast size. Suitability of the Procedure

Appropriate Choice of Breast Implants
Both saline and silicone implants have been approved by the FDA for cosmetic breast augmentation. Breast implants are available in sizes ranging from 120cc to 960cc. The shape of the implants can be round or teardrop and the surface may be textured or plain. Profile of the implants will also vary. An experienced plastic surgeon will help the patient make the most appropriate choice of implants.
Procedure
The surgeon may decide to perform breast augmentation plastic surgery using general anesthesia or IV sedation. The incision location options include beneath the breast crease, around the areola, in the underarm, or encircling the navel. The surgeon will ensure that the incision is made in an inconspicuous location as far as possible. Through the incision, the surgeon will carve a breast cavity for the placement of implant.
The placement of the implant can be between the breast tissue and chest muscle or simply below the chest muscle. The procedure is usually completed within two hours, but could be a little longer if it is combined with breast lift or another surgery. After the implants have been placed and adjusted into the right position, the surgeon will close the incisions with sutures or skin adhesive.
Recovery
Most patients will be ready to go back to work within a week to 10 days after the breast augmentation surgery. However, patients should avoid strenuous tasks, lifting of heavy weights and aggressive exercises for at least four to six weeks.
