The body will gain more or less permanent contours with liposuction plastic surgery. The new body contours will remain unaffected even if the patient puts on a moderate amount of weight (under ten pounds). But their new figure will appear as a slightly bigger version of their post-liposuction body shape.
The patient can enjoy their new figure as long as they do not gain an excessive amount of weight. The body will certainly experience aging-related changes. However, the results of their liposuction will still be visible. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Bryson Richards provides liposuction to patients in Las Vegas, NV, and surrounding locations.
How Changes in Body Weight Impact the Body Shape
Ideal liposuction candidates will maintain their body weight and follow a healthy diet and regular exercise routine after their procedure.
If the patient puts on weight after their liposuction surgery, it will impact their new body shape. Ideally, patients should weigh less following liposuction by at least the amount of fat eliminated.
If the patient weighed 140 pounds before the procedure and lost five pounds of fat via liposuction, they should ideally have a body weight of around 135 pounds after the procedure.
If this patient subsequently gains five pounds following their liposuction procedure to weigh 140 pounds, the cosmetic results of the surgery will still be visible but diminish marginally.
However, if this patient puts on ten more pounds to weigh 150 pounds following liposuction, it will have a major impact on the outcomes of the cosmetic surgery. Therefore, patients who may be unable to maintain their weight after liposuction may be better off without the procedure.
This is why that everyone needs to exercise. Just because someone has liposuction does not mean they can never gain weight again. If someone continues or chooses to live a lethargic life and does not eat properly they will continue to have to need to schedule lipo appointments because they will continue to have weight issues and be unhappy with their appearance.
Fat Accumulation after Post-Lipo Weight Gain
In case the patient gains a large amount of weight (ten pounds or more) after their liposuction surgery, then the body may potentially generate new fat cells. This new fat must accumulate in different areas of the body. In general, the new fat will typically deposit in areas of the body in proportion to the number of fat cells in each site.
For example, if the patient undergoes liposuction of the outer thighs, hips, and abdomen and subsequently gains a large amount of weight, more of the new fat will deposit in regions such as the back, upper arms, face, neck, breasts, and legs.
Maintaining Body Weight Post-Liposuction
The surgeon will provide the patient will guidelines on following a healthy lifestyle following liposuction plastic surgery. In the initial recovery period, the patient should only undertake gentle walks within their home to enhance blood flow.
They can progressively increase their activity level in the next two to three weeks without straining the incisions. In around one month, the incisions will heal completely.
At this time, the patient can perform more vigorous exercises. They should also consume a diet that is rich in vegetables, fruits, and fiber while avoiding processed foods and saturated fats as far as possible.
