Labiaplasty

WHAT IS LABIAPLASTY?

External factors such as gravity, childbirth, and the natural aging process can all contribute to the development of unwelcome aesthetic changes to the labia (the inner and outer folds of the vulva situated on either side of the vagina), including: labial asymmetry, sagging, elongation, or enlargement.

In addition to being a troublesome and potentially embarrassing cosmetic issue, elongated/enlarged labia may also create physical difficulties, such as:

  • Irritation when wearing tight pants, jeans, or bathing suits
  • A pinching or pulling sensation when exercising or participating in physical activities
  • Discomfort during sexual intercourse

Labiaplasty (a.k.a. labia rejuvenation, vaginal lip reduction, or labia reduction) is a surgical procedure performed to correct misshapen or uneven vaginal lips (vaginal asymmetry), and to minimize the appearance of elongated or enlarged labia. During labiaplasty surgery, the outer structures of the vagina are sculpted with careful contouring of the labia minora (inner lips of the vulva) and/or labia majora (outer lips of the vulva).

This relatively quick procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and produces a more aesthetically desirable and physically comfortable vaginal region. Although a common concern about labiaplasty is the potential reduction of sexual sensitivity, when performed by a skillful and experienced plastic surgeon, labiaplasty can actually enhance sexual sensitivity by increasing clitoral accessability.

In order to protect and preserve the delicate vaginal tissues, it is of crucial importance that labiaplasty is performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, such as Dr. Bryson Richards. Dr. Richards’ private practice is located in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he performs labiaplasty surgery using cutting edge technology, in a safe, comfortable procedural setting. Dr. Richards’ meticulous surgical techniques and extensive clinical expertise help to facilitate exceptional labiaplasty results in a discreet and tranquil environment.

LABIAPLASTY PROCEDURAL DETAILS

On average, labiaplasty surgery takes between 1-2 hours to complete, and is performed under light anesthesia. During your procedure, Dr. Richards will work through very small incisions to remove any excess tissue and even out the edges of the labia—ensuring that all asymmetry has been corrected—before closing the incisions with dissolvable sutures.

Most of our patients experience minimal bruising or discomfort after labiaplasty surgery, and are able to resume working within 3-4 days. However, you will be advised to abstain from sexual intercourse for 3-4 weeks after surgery, in order to allow the vaginal tissues to heal properly.
