Brazilian Butt Lift

WHAT IS A BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT (BBL)?

The recent media focus on the backsides of celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Biel, and Kim Kardashian has generated significant public interest in the buttocks enhancing procedure known as the Brazilian Butt Lift (a.k.a Brazilian Butt Augmentation, BBL). The ultimate goal of a Brazilian Butt Lift is to create more noticeably pronounced, perky gluteal regions for individuals who are dissatisfied with their flat or sagging buttocks.*

BBL surgery involves a combination of two procedures that are performed within the context of a single operation. During the initial phase of BBL surgery, fat is harvested from a donor site (often the abdomen or upper hip region) on the patient’s own body. This fat is then sterilized and re-injected into the buttocks, which enhances the gluteal contours by increasing the size of the buttocks. Because BBL procedures also remove fat from undesirable locations on the body, this surgery offers the additional advantage of slimming and toning common problem areas (i.e. hips, back, arms, thighs and abdomen).*

In order to ensure optimal results from your Brazilian Butt Lift surgery, your procedure should only be performed by a skillful plastic surgeon with extensive experience performing body contouring surgery, such as Dr. Bryson Richards, whose private practice is located in Las Vegas, Nevada. While in the exceptional care of Dr. Richards, you will be able to create a more lifted, sculpted, and voluptuous backside with expertly performed BBL surgery.*

BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT PROCEDURE

Your BBL surgery will be performed under general anesthesia in an outpatient setting, and can take anywhere from 90 minutes to 3 hours, depending upon the scope of the operation. There are two primary surgical techniques Dr. Richards will employ during your Brazilian Butt Lift procedure:

  • Tumescent Liposculpturing: the initial phase of the procedure involves the injection of tumescent fluid (a mixture of saline, lidocaine, and epinephrine) into the harvest site on the patient’s body where the fat will be removed (ie. abdomen, thighs). Dr. Richards will then use a small surgical tool known as a cannula to suction out excess fat from this area.
  • Autologous Fat Transfer: during the second half of the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure, the harvested fat is processed and sterilized before being placed in syringes and meticulously injected into the musculature and deep fat of the buttocks region to create an enviably full, rounded appearance.

After your Brazilian Butt Lift surgery, you should be able to return to work within 7-9 days, and you will be provided with a compression garment, which you will need to wear for approximately two weeks. Whenever possible during the first month of the initial healing period, you should try to avoid sitting on your buttocks, or to sit on pillows when sitting is required.*

TRADITIONAL BUTT LIFT OVERVIEW

Not all patients wish to enhance the appearance of their buttocks through augmentative measures. Traditional butt lift surgery is a viable option for patients who would like to tighten, lift, and sculpt the contours of the buttocks without adding volume to this area. During a traditional butt lift procedure, surplus skin and fat will be excised from the gluteal region in order to create a more toned, firm backside. A butt lift can also be utilized as a supplementary procedure for patients who are undergoing liposuction of the thighs and/or buttocks, because although liposuction is designed to remove excess fatty tissue, without the lifting and tightening techniques utilized during traditional butt lift surgery, the patient may be left with unattractive hanging or sagging skin in the gluteal region.*

Although traditional butt lift surgery is an appropriate choice for any patient seeking to improve the appearance of their gluteal region, this procedure is ideally suited for patients who have lost a significant amount of weight in a short period of time. For these patients, butt lift surgery provides an invaluable solution to the unwelcome problem of large amounts of hanging skin, which is a common aesthetic complication associated with massive weight loss. The removal of excess skin, in conjunction with the tightening and lifting of the buttocks during butt lift surgery, allows patients to finally realize the full scope of the aesthetic benefits produced by their weight loss efforts.*

TRADITIONAL BUTT LIFT PROCEDURAL DETAILS

The traditional butt lift procedure is performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia, and typically takes 2-4 hours.  During your butt lift surgery, Dr. Richards will make discreet incisions underneath your buttocks, and will then remove any excess skin and/or fat from your gluteal region. When appropriate, he may also perform liposuction at this time. After surgery, you can expect to experience some degree of swelling, pain, numbness, and bruising, all of which will subside within a few months.*

The most challenging aspect of recovery from butt lift surgery is the restriction on sitting for the first seven days after the procedure. Although avoiding sitting on your buttocks may be difficult, and at times inconvenient, patience is of paramount importance during this time in order to facilitate proper healing of the incision sites. You will be able to slowly resume all of your normal activities, including sitting down, over the next 4-6 weeks. The results from your traditional butt lift should last for many years, and maintaining a relatively stable weight will help to extend the longevity of your results.*

*Results are not guaranteed or guaranteed to be permanent.
